Difference Between GTA 6 Standard and Ultimate

GTA 6 has two main editions at launch, but the biggest difference comes down to the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition is one of the biggest preorder questions now that Rockstar has opened the road to launch. Grand Theft Auto VI already starts at a higher price than most major game releases, so players have a fair reason to look closely before choosing an edition.

Rockstar is selling two main editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both versions include the game, and both can include early purchase bonuses, but only one comes with the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

What is the Difference Between GTA 6 Standard and Ultimate?

The main difference between GTA 6 Standard and Ultimate is the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

The Standard Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI and costs $79.99. The Ultimate Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade and costs $99.99.

Both editions can include the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+ through the preorder or early purchase offer. That means those bonuses are not the main reason to pick Ultimate.

The real question is whether the Ultimate Edition Upgrade is worth another $20.

Ultimate Edition$99.99Grand Theft Auto VI, Ultimate Edition Upgrade, Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+

The GTA+ offer is worth reading carefully. On PlayStation, preordering GTA 6 before November 20, 2026 includes one month of GTA+ at no extra cost. The offer must be redeemed by March 31, 2027, is limited to one redemption per account, and the subscription continues until canceled after the included month.

That last part matters. Free trial energy is still subscription energy. Set a reminder if you do not want GTA+ renewing later.

What Comes With GTA 6 Standard Edition?

GTA 6 Standard Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI.

Players who preorder or purchase before November 20, 2026 can also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+. Those bonuses apply to the early purchase window, not only to the Ultimate Edition.

That makes the Standard Edition the cleaner choice if you only want the main GTA 6 experience and the launch-window bonuses. You get the game, the preorder pack, and the GTA+ month without paying extra for the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

What Comes With GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition includes Grand Theft Auto VI and the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

The upgrade adds exclusive in-game bonuses for Jason and Lucia across their story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter. That includes premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, special shops, customization spaces, and extra activities.

Confirmed Ultimate Edition Upgrade content includes:

  • ’95 Grotti Cheetah
  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver
  • Personalized weapon variants for Jason and Lucia
  • Vice City Style outfits, hairstyles, tattoos, and more
  • Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles, including a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and Crest Kayak
  • Ganado Retro Build
  • Shitzu Squalo
  • ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Paradise Garage
  • Goodtime Gear apparel and accessories
  • PTT Youngin$ Compound
  • Classic Car Collection
  • Rideout Customs
  • Sara’s Unisex Salon
  • Stock 305
  • Electric Fang Tattoo
  • One-Eyed Willie’s

That is the actual upgrade. The Vintage Vice City Pack and GTA+ month are nice bonuses, but they do not separate Standard from Ultimate.

What is the Ultimate Edition Upgrade?

The Ultimate Edition Upgrade is the add-on that turns the Standard Edition into the higher-tier version.

Rockstar describes it as an exclusive collection of items threaded across Jason and Lucia’s story. The PlayStation Store also lists the Ultimate Edition Upgrade as an add-on, though it may appear unavailable until the right purchase or redemption requirements are met.

That means players may not have to choose Ultimate immediately. If you buy Standard first, Rockstar says Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Xbox Stores after redeeming the Standard Edition code.

That makes Standard less risky if you are still deciding. You can start with the base game, then decide whether the extra vehicles, shops, weapons, and story-linked content are worth it later.

Is GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Worth It?

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is worth it only if you care about the extra in-game content.

If you just want to play Jason and Lucia’s main story, the Standard Edition is the safer choice. It costs less, includes the base game, and can still include the early purchase bonuses.

The Ultimate Edition makes more sense for players who want the extra vehicles, weapons, apparel, shops, tattoos, salons, garages, and activities from the start. It also matters if you like having bonus content tied into campaign progression instead of waiting to see what becomes available later.

Still, this is a $20 upgrade on top of a $79.99 base game. Nobody needs to pretend $99.99 is casual pocket change because Rockstar added palm trees to the box.

Which GTA 6 Edition Should You Buy?

Most players should buy GTA 6 Standard Edition unless they already know they want the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

Standard gets you the full game at the lowest price. Ultimate gives you more content, but that content is mostly extra vehicles, weapons, apparel, shops, customization, and side activities. Useful? Maybe. Essential? Rockstar has not said that.

If you are buying day one and want every bonus Rockstar is offering, Ultimate is the cleaner all-in option. If you are mainly here for the story, Standard should be enough.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you are still comparing the full cost, read our Rockstar GTA 6 price guide before picking an edition.
