GTA 6 PlayStation 5 code restrictions could prevent players from activating boxed copies imported from another region. Rockstar has confirmed that PlayStation download codes must match the region associated with the player’s PSN account, while Xbox codes will not be region-locked.
This matters because the physical version of GTA 6 will not include a disc. Instead, the box contains a code used to download the full game digitally.
GTA 6 PlayStation 5 Codes Must Match Your Account Region
Rockstar recommends purchasing GTA 6 from a retailer located in the same country or supported region as your platform account. Buying a cheaper imported PS5 copy could leave you with a code that your account cannot redeem.
For example, North American PlayStation codes are limited to accounts registered in Canada or the United States. A player with a US PSN account should not import a boxed copy containing a UK, Japanese, or European code.
Rockstar has divided supported PlayStation countries into several code regions, including:
- Brazil
- Latin America
- North America
- South Korea
- Japan
- United Kingdom
- Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates
- Rest of Asia
- Rest of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia
Several countries share the same broader regional code, but players should still verify the region printed on the product listing or packaging before ordering.
The restriction applies to redeeming the included PlayStation download code. It does not mean GTA 6 is generally locked to one console region after activation.
Xbox Codes Will Not Be Region-Locked
Xbox players do not face the same limitation. Rockstar states that GTA 6 Xbox download codes will not be region-locked.
That gives Xbox buyers more flexibility when purchasing from international retailers. However, Rockstar still recommends buying from a retailer operating in the same country as the player’s platform account to avoid other activation or storefront issues.
Japanese PS5 Codes Will Also Expire
Japanese GTA 6 PlayStation codes have an additional restriction. Rockstar says product codes issued in Japan will expire 170 days after the November 19, 2026 launch date due to regional regulations.
The expiration rule only applies to Japanese codes. Rockstar has not listed an expiration date for GTA 6 codes sold in other supported regions.
Players importing a Japanese PS5 copy should therefore consider both the account-region requirement and the limited redemption period.
