Will GTA 6 have online multiplayer? Players keep asking that question now that preorders are live. GTA Online has supported Grand Theft Auto for more than a decade, so fans naturally expect Rockstar to continue the format.
However, Rockstar has focused its current marketing on Jason, Lucia, and the story campaign. The company has shared details about the setting, editions, and platforms, but multiplayer remains a much bigger question.
Does GTA 6 Have Online Multiplayer?
Rockstar has not announced a new GTA 6 Online mode.
PlayStation currently describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience. That listing does not rule out multiplayer later, but Rockstar has not confirmed an online mode for launch.
Rockstar has confirmed Jason and Lucia’s story, the Leonida setting, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. The company has not given the same confirmation to GTA 6 Online.
Why Are Players Confused About GTA 6 Online?
GTA Online remains active, and GTA+ appears in the GTA 6 preorder offer. Together, those details have led some players to assume GTA 6 will include online play from day one.
However, GTA+ already supports the current version of GTA Online. The free month included with eligible digital preorders does not confirm a new GTA 6 multiplayer mode.

Is GTA 6 a Single-Player Game?
Rockstar currently markets GTA 6 as a single-player experience.
The official campaign follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos across Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. After a robbery goes wrong, the pair become caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state.
So far, Rockstar has built its launch campaign around that story. The company has not introduced online characters, multiplayer activities, or a separate online map.
Will the Current GTA Online Continue?
Rockstar has not explained what will happen to GTA Online after GTA 6 launches.
The current game still receives events, content updates, and GTA+ rewards. Rockstar could continue supporting it while preparing a new multiplayer experience. It could also keep the two games active at the same time.
Players should not expect their current money, properties, businesses, vehicles, or characters to transfer. Rockstar has not announced any form of progression carryover.
Could GTA 6 Online Launch Later?
Rockstar could launch a new online mode after the single-player game, but the company has not announced that plan.
GTA Online followed GTA 5 several weeks after the original game launched in 2013. Rockstar could use a similar schedule again. Still, the previous release does not guarantee the same approach for GTA 6.
Until Rockstar shares more, any launch-window predictions remain speculation.
