The Calico Rabbit in Dreamlight Valley is one of the rarest critters in the Peaceful Meadow. It only appears on one day each week, and its patchy coat can be difficult to spot among trees, buildings, and decorations.
Its schedule was expanded in a recent update, but several older guides still list the original six-hour window.
How to Get the Calico Rabbit in Dreamlight Valley
Find the Calico Rabbit in the Peaceful Meadow on Thursday, chase it until the Approach prompt appears, and feed it a Carrot. Return on later Thursdays and continue feeding it until it unlocks as a companion.
Only one successful feeding per day advances your progress. Feeding it repeatedly during the same Thursday will not let you unlock it immediately.
The Calico Rabbit may unlock after two qualifying feedings, but the exact number can vary. Check its entry in the Critters Collection after each Thursday feeding.
Calico Rabbit Schedule
The Calico Rabbit follows this weekly schedule:
- Thursday: All day
- Friday through Wednesday: Not available
“All day” means the Calico Rabbit can appear from 12 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. local time.
Gameloft expanded its schedule in the June 3, 2026 update. Older guides may still say the Calico Rabbit only appears from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, but that time restriction is outdated.
You can confirm its availability through the Critters section of the Collection menu.
Where to Find the Calico Rabbit
The Calico Rabbit roams throughout the Peaceful Meadow. It does not have one guaranteed spawn point, so search the full biome.
Check these areas carefully:
- Around Goofy’s Stall
- Near the Meadow’s ponds
- Behind houses and other buildings
- Along the paths leading to the Plaza and Dazzle Beach
- Behind trees, bushes, and large decorations
The Classic Rabbit and White Rabbit can also appear on Thursday. Seeing those variants does not mean the Calico Rabbit is unavailable.
Look for a rabbit with white, brown, and orange patches. Its coloring makes it distinct once you get close, but it can blend into the ground from a distance.
If you cannot find it, enter a building and return to the Peaceful Meadow. You can also fast travel to another biome, come back, or restart the game to refresh the area.
How to Approach the Calico Rabbit
Rabbits use a chase-style feeding pattern. You cannot approach one immediately.
Follow these steps:
- Walk toward the Calico Rabbit until it hops away.
- Follow it to its new position.
- Approach it again and wait for it to run.
- Repeat the chase until it stops moving away.
- Use the Approach prompt when it appears.
- Select a Carrot from the feeding menu.
The rabbit usually runs three times before allowing you to approach. Do not worry about scaring it away. The chase is part of the normal interaction.
What Does the Calico Rabbit Eat?
The Calico Rabbit’s favorite food is a Carrot.
Carrots and Carrot Seeds are available from Goofy’s Stall in the Peaceful Meadow. If the harvested vegetable is not currently in stock, buy seeds and grow your own.
Bring at least one Carrot before searching on Thursday. Feeding the rabbit its favorite food gives the best reward and removes any uncertainty about whether your chosen item will be accepted.
How Many Times Do You Need to Feed the Calico Rabbit?
The Calico Rabbit can unlock after at least two successful feedings, but the companion reward is not guaranteed on the minimum count.
Only your first successful feeding of the day counts. Since the rabbit only appears on Thursdays, you will need to return across multiple weeks.
A typical collection attempt looks like this:
- Feed the Calico Rabbit on Thursday.
- Wait until the following Thursday.
- Feed it again.
- Check the Critters Collection for the companion unlock.
- Continue returning on Thursdays if it remains locked.
A checkmark in the feeding interface shows that you have already completed that day’s qualifying interaction.
How to Equip the Calico Rabbit Companion
Once the Calico Rabbit unlocks, open the Wardrobe menu and select Companions. Choose the Calico Rabbit to have it follow your character around the Valley.
You can also use the rabbit during certain Photo Mode poses or place it near a Companion Home.
If it does not appear immediately after unlocking, close and reopen the Wardrobe menu. Restarting the game may also refresh the companion list.
The updated all-day Thursday schedule gives you plenty of time to search the Peaceful Meadow. Bring a Carrot, check behind buildings and decorations, and remember that the other rabbit variants do not prevent the Calico Rabbit from appearing.
