The Sims 4 October 27 update is shaping up to be a substantial quality-of-life patch. EA says Tuesday’s free base-game update will introduce more than 150 fixes, adjustments and new features, with particular attention to everyday activities.
The changes follow months of community feedback about frustrating interactions, technical problems and gameplay systems that don’t always behave as intended. Here’s what players can expect when the update arrives.
The Sims 4 October 27 Update Focuses on Dining
Food, dining and drinks are the main focus this month. In particular, EA wants to address several problems that have made restaurant visits more frustrating than they should be.
For players who own the Dine Out pack, the update aims to fix missing restaurant employees and customers who spend too much time socializing instead of sitting down.
Additionally, customers should finish their meals before leaving restaurants.
Other dining improvements include:
- Sims remaining seated more consistently during meals.
- Bartenders accepting orders while performing other activities.
- Sims choosing leftovers instead of constantly preparing fresh meals.
- Less obsessive use of pressure cookers.
- Adjusted food prices and calorie values.
EA also plans to expand the Family Recipes feature from Business & Hobbies by adding more than 375 existing dishes to its eligible recipe pool.
New Muscle and Weight Settings
Beyond dining changes, the update introduces separate controls for muscle and weight changes.
Players can enable or disable these changes across an entire save or manage them individually for each Sim.
For example, you can prevent muscle changes while still allowing weight changes. The settings operate independently, giving players more control over their Sims’ appearance.
However, these options won’t apply to pets.
More Bug Fixes and Quality-of-Life Improvements
The Sims 4 October 27 update also targets several frustrating technical issues.
EA says it has addressed endless loading during lot placement, white screens affecting certain saves and Sims freezing during movement or other interactions.
Meanwhile, players will gain the ability to restrict television access to specific Sims. The update also reorganizes several character interactions under a new Sim Options menu.
EA plans to include approximately 10 additional crash fixes, although conflicting mods may still cause problems.
The developer outlined these changes in its October 20 preview. For the complete list of announced improvements, read EA’s official Laundry List.
