The release is much more than a visual touch-up. Nintendo now describes Ocarina of Time as built from the ground up, with overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, updated movement, and modern camera controls.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma announced the date during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. Nintendo’s official Ocarina of Time product page also lists Nov. 5 as the release date.
That replaces the original broad 2026 window announced when Nintendo revealed the game in June. It also puts to rest earlier speculation that the remake could arrive later in November.
Is Ocarina of Time a Remake or Remaster?
Nintendo is now being much clearer about what this version is.
The company says Ocarina of Time was built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2, while its international announcement describes the game as remade for a new era. That makes this a full remake rather than a simple port, resolution upgrade, or remaster of the Nintendo 64 version.
The remake keeps the core story and setting of the 1998 original while rebuilding its presentation and updating how Link moves through Hyrule.
Nintendo has not announced major changes to the dungeon structure or overall progression, so players should not assume every part of the original adventure has been redesigned. However, the confirmed gameplay changes already go well beyond sharper textures and a higher resolution.
What is Different in the Ocarina of Time Remake?

The most obvious upgrade is the completely overhauled visual presentation, but the remake also introduces fully voiced cutscenes and expanded character dialogue. The soundtrack has been rebuilt with symphonic orchestral music as well.
Movement is changing too. Link can now jump and dash, while Nintendo has added enhanced controls and modern camera movement.
Those changes address two areas where the original game’s age is especially noticeable today. The Nintendo 64 version relied heavily on context-sensitive movement and Z-targeting, while camera control was designed around a controller that did not have a second analog stick.
Nintendo has not detailed every combat or movement adjustment yet, but the new camera and traversal options should make navigating Hyrule feel substantially different from playing the original through Nintendo Switch Online.
Is the Ocarina of Time Remake a Switch 2 Exclusive?
Yes. The new Ocarina of Time is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo’s store listing names Switch 2 as the only supported platform, and the company has not announced an original Nintendo Switch version or an upgrade path from the Nintendo 64 release available through Nintendo Switch Online.
That older version remains a separate way to play the original game. Likewise, Ocarina of Time 3D on Nintendo 3DS is its own release rather than the foundation of the new Switch 2 version.
Will Ocarina of Time Have a Physical Edition?
Yes. Nintendo now lists both physical and digital versions of Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2.
The physical edition has its own official Nintendo store listing, resolving another question left open after the June reveal.
Nintendo has not announced a separate collector’s edition on the current product pages. However, the company is releasing a Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 system and matching accessories on Oct. 29, one week before the game launches.
Does Ocarina of Time Support amiibo and ZELDA NOTES?
Yes. The remake supports Legend of Zelda amiibo and Nintendo’s ZELDA NOTES service.
Existing Zelda-series amiibo can provide in-game extras. Nintendo is also releasing new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo in 2027, which will unlock masks inspired by retro graphics when scanned in the game.
ZELDA NOTES works through the Nintendo Switch App on compatible smart devices. The service can track daily accomplishments, give players image-based location challenges, and even let you play an ocarina through your phone.
Nintendo is taking the ocarina part one step further with an Electric OCARINA OF TIME accessory launching Nov. 5. The electronic toy can interact with the game through sound recognition and includes both free-play and automatic song modes.
It is not a controller, despite looking like exactly the kind of thing someone will eventually try to beat the game with anyway.
