TFT Patch 17.6 Notes: Pengu’s Party Changes, Augment Updates, and Key Buffs

TFT patch 17.6 brings Pengu’s Party balance changes, Augment updates, champion buffs, mobile spec changes, and key bug fixes.

Riot Games has released Teamfight Tactics patch 17.6, and this one is more of a focused tuning patch than a full meta earthquake. The update makes changes to Pengu’s Party, adjusts several Space Gods Augments, buffs underperforming champions, and includes a few important bug fixes. Riot also confirmed that patch 17.6 will last three weeks, with patch 17.7 scheduled for July 15.

That means players will be living with these changes a little longer than usual, so knowing what changed actually matters. Tiny numbers, big ladder pain. Classic TFT.

TFT Patch 17.6 Is a Smaller Balance Patch

Patch 17.6 is not designed to completely flip the current meta. Riot says the set is in a fairly healthy place, especially with regional tournaments coming up, so the team avoided making huge swings. Instead, this patch focuses on smaller buffs, targeted nerfs, and a broad Augment pass.

The biggest areas to watch are:

  • Pengu’s Party balance changes
  • Augment buffs and nerfs
  • Meeple and Gnar reroll adjustments
  • Shepherd, N.O.V.A., and Arbiter improvements
  • Mobile minimum spec changes

Mobile Minimum Specs Are Changing Soon

One of the most important non-balance updates is for mobile players. Starting July 22, TFT will no longer support 2GB and 3GB mobile devices. Players using those devices will need to upgrade if they want to keep playing TFT on mobile.

That is not a gameplay change, but it is worth knowing before your phone gets benched harder than a one-star carry with no items.

Trait Changes: Meeple Nerfed, Shepherd Buffed

Several traits received adjustments in TFT patch 17.6, but the most notable change is aimed at Meeple 7. Riot targeted the trait’s economy because reroll Gnar comps were using Meeple rewards to reach higher levels too consistently. Meeple 7 now gives less gold per cloned 2-cost unit, dropping from 5 gold to 3 gold.

Gnar also received a small nerf, with his base attack damage going from 50 to 48. Riot is clearly trying to reduce the comp’s consistency without deleting it from the game.

ORiot Games has released TFT patch 17.6, and this update focuses more on tuning than chaos. The patch adjusts Pengu’s Party, changes several Augments, buffs underused champions, and includes a few important bug fixes.

Players should also note the patch schedule. Riot says patch 17.6 will last three weeks, with patch 17.7 planned for July 15. So yes, these changes are sticking around for a bit. Tiny numbers, long-term ladder pain. Classic TFT.

TFT Patch 17.6 Keeps the Meta Mostly Stable

Patch 17.6 does not try to flip the entire meta upside down. Instead, Riot makes smaller adjustments because the current set sits in a fairly healthy spot.

That matters because regional tournaments are coming up. Rather than drop a balance hammer from orbit, the team focuses on targeted buffs, nerfs, and Augment cleanup.

The biggest areas in TFT patch 17.6 include:

  • Pengu’s Party balance changes
  • Augment buffs and nerfs
  • Meeple and Gnar reroll adjustments
  • Shepherd, N.O.V.A., and Arbiter improvements
  • Mobile minimum spec changes

Mobile Support Changes Are Coming Soon

Mobile players should pay attention to one important update. Starting July 22, TFT will no longer support 2GB and 3GB mobile devices.

Anyone using one of those devices will need to upgrade to keep playing TFT on mobile. That is not a gameplay change, but it still matters. Getting device-diffed is somehow worse than getting eighth.

Meeple Takes a Hit in TFT Patch 17.6

The biggest trait nerf targets Meeple 7. Riot lowered its economy power because reroll Gnar comps used Meeple rewards too well.

Previously, Meeple 7 gave 5 gold for each cloned 2-cost unit. Patch 17.6 drops that reward to 3 gold.

Riot also nerfed Gnar directly. His attack damage falls from 50 to 48. That is a small number, but in reroll comps, small numbers love to cause big problems.

These changes should make Gnar reroll less consistent without completely deleting it from the game.

Anima Squad Rewards Get Adjusted

Anima Squad 6 also sees reward changes in this patch. Riot removed the old 15 gold and three 4-cost unit rewards.

To make up for that, the Lesser Duplicator reward now also grants 5 gold. Component and emblem rewards should also appear more often.

This should make Anima Squad feel smoother without letting its cashouts go full lottery goblin.

Arbiter Gets Stronger Bonuses

Arbiter gets several buffs in TFT patch 17.6. Riot improved its Attack Speed, resist, shield, and gold bonuses from rerolled-last-turn inputs.

The trait’s combat start shield also lasts longer. It now stays active for 10 seconds, up from 8 seconds.

That extra time could help Arbiter boards stabilize more often, especially in close fights.

N.O.V.A. Receives Useful Buffs

N.O.V.A. 5 also gets stronger in this update. Riot improves several champion bonuses, including effects for Caitlyn, Akali, and Kindred.

These buffs may help N.O.V.A. boards feel less narrow. They could also make more versions of the trait worth testing.

Shepherd Looks Much Better After Patch 17.6

Shepherd gets one of the more noticeable trait buffs in this patch. Riot increases summon damage and health scaling at Shepherd 5 and Shepherd 7.

Shepherd 7 also gains a stronger shield. That could make late-game Shepherd boards harder to punch through.

The timing is interesting because several AP champions also get buffed in this update. Shepherd players may have more room to experiment instead of forcing the same lines every lobby.

Champion Buffs Help AP and Utility Units

TFT patch 17.6 buffs several champions, including Twisted Fate, Mordekaiser, Viktor, Lulu, Karma, LeBlanc, Morgana, Master Yi, and Nami.

Twisted Fate gains more ability damage, which should help him perform better as an early AP unit. Mordekaiser also gets stronger shields, giving him more staying power.

Meanwhile, Karma and LeBlanc may benefit from the Shepherd buffs. If those boards rise, expect more players to test AP-heavy setups during this patch.

Aurelion Sol also gets a small non-Mech spell damage buff. Shen receives a cleaner improvement too. He now always gains his Attack Speed bonus after casting, and his self-buff no longer decays.

Augments Get the Biggest Update

The largest part of TFT patch 17.6 belongs to Augments. Riot adjusts several options to make them easier to use across more team comps.

For example, Best Friends I/II now grants both Armor and Magic Resist instead of only Armor. Blood Offering also works better for both AP and AD comps.

Several weaker Augments get buffs, especially Augments connected to Thief’s Gloves. At the same time, Riot pulls back some stronger options.

Notable Augment changes include:

  • Critical Success has been disabled.
  • Birthday Reunion gets nerfed.
  • Expedition gives less gold and now has a one-player limit.
  • Restart Mission can no longer appear with Expedition, Clear Mind, or AFK.
  • Self-Destruct Gragas deals less damage.
  • Loot Singularity has adjusted cashouts, with some high-end rewards removed.

These Augment changes may shape the patch more than the champion buffs. TFT games often swing around Augment power, so players should expect some lobby habits to change.

Pengu’s Party Gets More Balance Changes

Pengu’s Party also gets a sizable tuning pass in TFT patch 17.6. Riot targets several overperforming options, including Demacia, Honeymancy, and Storyweaver Kayle.

Honeymancy loses bee damage at Bronze and Prismatic levels. Demacia loses some mana reduction and defensive power. Galio’s ally shield also goes down at some ranks.

Storyweaver Kayle also takes a hit. Riot lowers her strongest active and passive damage values.

However, not every Pengu’s Party trait gets nerfed. Riot buffs several options, including Nitro, The Crew, Prismatic Overlord, Prismatic Mountain, Pyro, and Prismatic Coven.

The result should create more variety in Pengu’s Party instead of letting the same few options dominate every match.

Bug Fixes in TFT Patch 17.6

Patch 17.6 also fixes several bugs. Riot corrected Soraka’s Blessing of Prosperity tooltip and fixed an issue where Two Tanky could create an extra Shepherd Summon.

Pengu’s Party also gets a few specific fixes. Ixtal cashouts at 920 and 1000 now properly grant their rewards. Riot also fixed Nitro splash art on mobile and improved planning phase stack visibility for Draven’s Axe in Pengu’s Party Shimmerscale.

None of these fixes should rewrite the meta, but they should make the patch feel cleaner.

Final Thoughts on TFT Patch 17.6

TFT patch 17.6 is not a massive shake-up, but it still matters. The Meeple economy nerf should slow down Gnar reroll boards, while Shepherd, N.O.V.A., Arbiter, and several AP champions look more appealing.

The Augment changes may have the biggest long-term impact, especially because this patch lasts three weeks. Players should also keep an eye on Pengu’s Party, where Riot finally pulls back some of the strongest anniversary traits.
