2K has released the first official NBA 2K27 gameplay trailer, featuring cover athletes Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose alongside stars from across the NBA and WNBA.
The footage focuses heavily on visual presentation, signature celebrations, and recreated basketball moments. However, 2K also shared an early breakdown of several gameplay and mode changes coming this year.
Those additions include changes to AI defense, an updated Dunk Meter, an expanded MyPLAYER Builder, and a unified MyTEAM Auction House. Players will get a deeper look during the NBA 2K27 Preseason Breakdown stream in August.
NBA 2K27 Gameplay Trailer Features NBA and WNBA Stars
The NBA 2K27 gameplay trailer highlights several recognizable moments from the past season. Wembanyama’s playoff celebration, which also appears on the Standard Edition cover, is among the featured scenes.
The trailer also includes Caitlin Clark wearing her signature Caitlin 1 shoe and Derrick Rose recreating his game-winning three-pointer against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Other featured moments include:

The unusual player and team combinations offer an early look at how NBA 2K27 will represent the league heading into the new season. They also give fans their first chance to inspect updated player models, uniforms, animations, and arena presentation.
Still, the trailer is closer to a presentation showcase than a full gameplay demonstration. The more detailed mechanical breakdown came through information released alongside the video.
NBA 2K27 Introduces a Dynamic Dunk Meter
The new dynamic Dunk Meter is one of the most notable gameplay changes confirmed so far.
Instead of judging the attempt primarily at takeoff, NBA 2K27 will continuously evaluate defensive positioning throughout the entire dunk animation. The system tracks the defense from the moment the player leaves the floor until the finish.
A wide-open lane will create a larger green window. Meanwhile, a defender who closes the gap or challenges the dunk late can shrink that window before the attempt is completed.
That should make late defensive contests more meaningful. It could also reduce situations where an offensive player commits to a meter dunk and becomes almost impossible to stop once the animation begins.
The feature remains skill-based, so players will still need to time the finish correctly. However, the available timing window will now react more directly to what happens around the rim.
AI Defenders Should Contest Shots More Effectively
NBA 2K27 will also adjust AI defense, particularly in online modes such as The REC.
According to 2K, computer-controlled defenders will hold their positions more effectively and provide stronger shot contests. This change appears designed to reduce defensive breakdowns caused by AI teammates drifting away from their assignments or failing to recognize nearby shooters.
Better positioning could be especially important when a player disconnects and leaves behind an AI-controlled MyPLAYER. In previous games, experienced opponents could often exploit those replacements through predictable movement and inconsistent closeouts.
2K has not explained every AI adjustment yet. A fuller breakdown is expected during the August reveal stream.
MyPLAYER Builder Expands to 53 Badges
NBA 2K27 increases the number of MyPLAYER Badges from 40 to 53.
That total includes 19 new Badges, although 2K has not revealed their names or requirements. Since the overall increase is smaller than the number of additions, some existing Badges may be removed, combined, or reworked.
The larger Badge pool should give players more options for specializing their builds. However, the full impact will depend on how Badge tiers, attribute requirements, and progression work this year.
Cap Breakers Return With a Useful Builder Change
Cap Breakers will return in NBA 2K27. Players can use them to raise selected attribute limits after creating their builds.
This year, the MyPLAYER Builder will let players preview those increases before committing to the build. That should make it easier to plan around future Cap Breakers instead of relying on external calculators or discovering too late that a build cannot reach a desired rating.
The preview system could help players see which animations, Badges, or attribute thresholds become available after applying the boosts.
MyTEAM Is Getting a Unified Auction House
NBA 2K27 will introduce a unified MyTEAM Auction House across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Listings from players on all three platforms will feed into the same marketplace. As a result, the Auction House should contain a larger selection of cards than a platform-specific economy.
A larger player pool may also help stabilize prices and make less common cards easier to find. PC was not named as part of the unified Auction House announcement.
2K is also removing the verification delay that previously followed a successful auction. Won cards will be added to the player’s collection immediately.
Rucker Park Comes to MyCAREER and Street Kings
Rucker Park will appear in NBA 2K27 as part of the MyCAREER prelude and Street Kings.
The famous New York City basketball court serves as the setting for this year’s prelude story, titled Fire & Concrete. Players will also be able to compete at the location through Street Kings.
Rucker Park gives the new MyCAREER story a recognizable basketball setting without requiring another fictional starting location. However, 2K has not yet explained the characters, progression, or structure of Fire & Concrete.

The City Keeps Its Layout but Moves to Night
NBA 2K27 will keep the centralized City layout introduced last year.
According to 2K, the layout received a positive response from players, so the development team chose to refine the existing structure rather than rebuild it again. That decision should make navigation familiar for returning players.
The larger visual change is a nighttime aesthetic. Buildings, courts, and gathering areas will use more prominent artificial and neon lighting after dark.
Keeping the same basic layout may also give the developers more time to improve courts, activities, performance, and the places where players spend most of their time.
MyNBA Adds Modern Salary Cap Rules
MyNBA is receiving several changes based on the league’s current rules.
The mode will account for the salary cap effects created by the new collective bargaining agreement’s second apron. NBA teams that cross the second apron face strict restrictions on trades, roster construction, and other transactions.
Players will also be able to offer No-Trade Clauses to free agents.
These additions should give long-term franchise saves more realistic roster-building restrictions. They may also make managing expensive contenders more difficult than simply paying a larger luxury tax bill.
2K says these are only some of the new MyNBA features planned for NBA 2K27.

The Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Reveal will take place on August 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PT and 1:00 p.m. ET.
2K plans to reveal the game’s major features, gameplay enhancements, and mode updates during the event. The stream will be available through Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and X.

NBA 2K27 launches worldwide on September 4, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Deluxe Edition and Ultra Edition owners receive early access beginning August 28 at 9:00 a.m. PT. The Ultra Edition is only available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through September 4.
The gameplay trailer provides the first broad look at NBA 2K27, but the newly confirmed features are the bigger story. The dynamic Dunk Meter, expanded Badge system, Auction House changes, and return of Rucker Park give players several reasons to watch the full August presentation.
