Finding Sky Lanterns in FH6 is more complicated than driving to a marked landmark. The Collection Journal names the subject, but it does not explain which part of Japan to search or why the lanterns may be missing when you arrive.

Where to Find Sky Lanterns in Forza Horizon 6
Sky Lanterns appear in a field northeast of the Horizon Stadium in the Shimanoyama region.
The stadium sits on the far western side of the FH6 map. Once you reach it, drive toward the field northeast of the circular stadium structure.
Look for a small gathering area with festival tents beside a dirt road. The lanterns launch from this area and rise above the tents once the correct conditions begin.
How to Reach the Sky Lanterns Location
Follow these steps:
- Open the Forza Horizon 6 map.
- Move to the Shimanoyama region on the western side.
- Find the large circular Horizon Stadium.
- Drive northeast from the stadium.
- Look for the festival tents in the nearby field.
- Wait for the lanterns to rise before opening Photo Mode.
When Do Sky Lanterns Appear?
Sky Lanterns only appear during Autumn at night.
Visiting during the day will not work, even if Autumn is active. You may also see different decorations around the tents during another season.
Once night arrives, dozens of orange lanterns should rise from the festival area and fill the sky.
How to Photograph the Sky Lanterns
Press Up on the D-pad to open Photo Mode. Point the camera toward the lantern cluster and keep several lanterns clearly visible in the frame.
Take the photo and check whether the Discover Japan notification appears. You do not need to photograph one specific lantern.
How to Find Sky Lanterns with EventLab
You can use EventLab if the current Festival Playlist season is not Autumn or you do not want to wait for night.
Follow these steps:
- Open the pause menu.
- Go to the Creative Hub tab.
- Select Horizon EventLab.
- Choose Play Challenges.
- Open the search menu.
- Enter “Sky Lantern” in the title field.
- Select a community challenge set during an Autumn night.
The challenge should load near the correct field with the lanterns already visible. Open Photo Mode and take the picture before finishing or leaving the event.
