Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS has become a major question as Rockstar moves closer to launch. Players have seen detailed cities, busy roads, crowds, wildlife, water, and large stretches of Leonida in the game’s trailers.
Those details come with a technical cost. GTA 6 must balance visual quality, world simulation, resolution, and performance across several consoles.
Does GTA 6 Run at 60 FPS?
Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 will run at 60 FPS.
The company has not announced graphics modes or frame-rate targets for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S. Official store pages confirm the platforms but do not promise a 60 FPS performance mode.
Any claim that GTA 6 definitely runs at 30 or 60 FPS remains unconfirmed.
Why Might GTA 6 Run at 30 FPS?
GTA 6 appears to simulate a large and crowded open world.
The game must manage traffic, characters, physics, lighting, reflections, weather, interiors, and other systems at the same time. These features can put heavy pressure on a console’s CPU, not just its graphics hardware.
Technical analysts at Digital Foundry have argued that CPU demands may make 60 FPS difficult on current consoles. They believe 30 FPS looks more realistic, though Rockstar has not confirmed their prediction.
Could GTA 6 Have a 40 FPS Mode?
A 40 FPS mode could offer a middle ground on compatible 120 Hz displays.
This setup can feel smoother than 30 FPS while demanding less hardware power than 60 FPS. Several modern console games use 40 FPS modes to preserve higher visual settings.
Digital Foundry has suggested that 40 FPS could suit GTA 6 if Rockstar cannot reach a stable 60 FPS. Still, the company has not announced such a mode.
Will GTA 6 Run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?
Rockstar has not confirmed 60 FPS on PS5 Pro.
PlayStation marks GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, which means the game should use some of the console’s added capabilities. However, the listing does not explain those improvements.
The enhancements could involve resolution, ray tracing, image quality, visual settings, or steadier performance. A PS5 Pro label does not automatically guarantee 60 FPS.
What About Xbox Series X and Series S?
Rockstar has not announced frame-rate targets for either Xbox console.
Xbox Series X has more graphics power than Series S, but both use related CPU technology. If CPU simulation limits performance, lowering the visual resolution may not automatically create a stable 60 FPS mode.
Could Rockstar Add 60 FPS Later?
Rockstar could add new performance modes after launch.
GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on older consoles with 30 FPS targets. GTA 5 later received higher-performance options on newer hardware. That history does not confirm GTA 6’s plans, but it shows Rockstar can revisit performance after release.
For now, players should not preorder based on an assumed frame rate. Rockstar needs to reveal its graphics modes before anyone can give a firm answer.
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
