Hunter x Hunter Chapter 420 Spoilers and Full Summary
Tserriednich enters the casino after deciding its emergency route offers his best chance of escaping the restrictions on Tier 1.
He quickly realizes something is wrong.
Soldiers in the area have already been taken down, and the man sitting casually inside the casino is Hisoka.
The encounter immediately gives Tserriednich something his previous experiments could not provide.
A test against an experienced Nen user.
Tserriednich Uses Laplace Devil Against Hisoka
Tserriednich approaches Hisoka while trying to maintain the conditions needed for Laplace Devil.
His future vision gives him an immediate warning.
Hisoka can kill him before Tserriednich has time to respond normally.
Tserriednich sees a future in which Hisoka attacks him with a playing card and uses Laplace Devil to avoid following the fatal sequence himself. Hisoka instead experiences the predicted outcome created by the ability.
For a moment, the technique works.
Then Hisoka’s reaction changes everything.
Does Hisoka See Through Laplace Devil?
Chapter 420 does not establish that Hisoka fully understands Laplace Devil.
However, he clearly notices that something about the situation is wrong.
Hisoka pauses after apparently killing Tserriednich, looks around, and eventually directs his attention toward the area where the real Tserriednich should not be perceptible through the ability’s normal effect.
That reaction rattles Tserriednich.
Ordinary soldiers accepted the false future produced by Laplace Devil. Hisoka does not behave nearly as predictably.
Whether Hisoka actually perceives Tserriednich, senses his Nen beast, or simply recognizes that his surroundings do not add up remains open to interpretation.
Tserriednich Finds Another Weakness in His Nen
The meeting also forces Tserriednich to consider a major combat problem.
Laplace Devil may let him escape a future he has already seen, but activating the ability requires him to reach Zetsu first.
Against someone as fast and experienced as Hisoka, that setup is too slow.
Tserriednich concludes that he needs to reach Zetsu in a fraction of a second if he wants Laplace Devil to function reliably in a real Nen battle. Chapter 420 also establishes that continued use puts limits on the Nen beast powering the ability rather than giving him an unlimited number of activations.
That gives his extraordinary ability another important weakness.
What Does Hisoka Think of Tserriednich?
Hisoka does not immediately turn the encounter into a prolonged fight.
Instead, he leaves.
That may be even more damaging to Tserriednich’s ego.
The Fourth Prince has spent several chapters discovering just how quickly he can master Nen. His brief interaction with Hisoka shows him what an enormous difference practical combat experience still makes.
Tserriednich survives the encounter, but his focus has changed.
Seeing the future is not enough.
He needs to become fast enough to use that future against opponents who can kill him before Laplace Devil is even ready.
Unfortunately, readers will have to wait to see where that lesson takes him.
Chapter 420 ends the current publication run, and Chapter 421 does not yet have a release date.
