Benjamin believes he killed the Fourth Prince in Chapter 417. In reality, Tserriednich is alive, maintaining the illusion of his own death while preparing to escape Room 1004 before his ability runs out.

Hunter x Hunter Chapter 418 Full Spoilers
Chapter 418 focuses almost entirely on Tserriednich and the mechanics behind Parallel Future.
The Fourth Prince begins by reviewing what he has learned about the ability through training.
Entering Zetsu while his eyes are closed allows him to see up to 10 seconds into the future.
Those 10 seconds pass almost instantaneously from Tserriednich’s perspective.
Once he opens his eyes, the future he witnessed begins playing out for everyone around him.
However, Tserriednich does not have to follow that future himself.
That difference creates the false reality that allowed Theta, and later Benjamin, to believe they had killed him.
Parallel Future Cannot Directly Change Other People
Chapter 418 places a major restriction on Tserriednich’s ability.
He cannot alter another person’s position or physical state inside the future he has already seen.
Those people continue acting according to the original 10-second sequence.
Tserriednich compares them to figures following a predetermined scenario.

The real bottle is somewhere else.
Tserriednich Cannot Force the Future He Wants
Tserriednich has also been experimenting with whether he can create a specific future before activating his ability.
That does not work the way he hoped.
He cannot simply decide that he wants something to happen and then force Parallel Future to show that result.
The future he sees still needs to follow from actions that actually occurred in reality.
Tserriednich considers this another limitation of what he calls his current Level 1 ability.

Tserriednich’s Zetsu Drops to 2.92 Seconds
Tserriednich continues training his Zetsu activation speed.

When Theta shot him earlier in the Succession Contest, she believed she had killed him.

Parallel Future Has a Limited Range
Parallel Future is not affecting the entire Black Whale.
Tserriednich believes its influence spreads outward from the location where he activates the ability.

As Tserriednich moves farther away from the activation point, he hears increasing static.

Benjamin’s Soldiers Storm Room 1004
Special Martial Law reaches Tserriednich’s quarters.
Benjamin’s soldiers demand entry and threaten to break through the door.
Tserriednich tells his guards not to resist.
He orders them to surrender their weapons, raise their hands, and follow the military’s instructions.
Tserriednich then positions himself exactly where the illusion expects him to be.
The sequence recreates Benjamin’s assassination from Chapter 417.
Benjamin enters and shoots him.
From everyone else’s perspective, Tserriednich is now a bloody corpse.
From Tserriednich’s perspective, the plan worked perfectly.
Tserriednich Realizes Benjamin Is in a Hurry
Tserriednich is almost offended by how quickly Benjamin kills him.
He expected his older brother to spend more time tormenting him.
Instead, Benjamin immediately executes him and moves on.
That gives Tserriednich another clue.
Benjamin must be under severe time pressure.
Tserriednich does not yet know about TSK-17, but he correctly concludes that Special Martial Law is Benjamin’s final push to eliminate the remaining princes.

His instructions reject a traditional funeral, posthumous name, farewell ceremony, and face-to-face viewing of the corpse.
He argues that Benjamin’s attack left his remains too badly damaged for viewing.
The plan is designed to keep the coffin closed.

Salkov Knows the Truth
Salkov is one of the few people who understands that Tserriednich’s death is fake.

Vantine becomes angry with Salkov.
He questions whether Salkov could have protected Tserriednich by using his own body as a shield.

He shoots Vantine.
The bullets do not affect him.
That moment reinforces one of the restrictions established earlier in the chapter.

What Happened in Hunter x Hunter Chapter 417?
Chapter 417 revealed Benjamin’s endgame for the Succession Contest.
TSK-17 will kill him within hours, so Benjamin no longer needs to personally survive.
Instead, he plans to eliminate the remaining princes, trigger Kakin’s emergency succession law, and leave his own bloodline positioned to inherit the throne.
Benjamin also believes he killed Tserriednich.
