Obsidian Entertainment launched its first-person fantasy RPG Avowed on PlayStation 5 today. The studio also pushed a major Anniversary Update to all platforms.
Avowed takes place in the Living Lands, a strange frontier packed with ancient magic and constant danger. The world leans hard into politics, tension, and tough calls. You shape your own path as you move through the region. You can fight with steel, lean on spells, or mix the two. Your choices matter, and they can change how events play out.
Obsidian released Avowed about a year ago, and the team is using this milestone to deliver its biggest patch yet. The studio built the Anniversary Update around player feedback. It aims to give you more control over your character, more room to test builds, and more reasons to jump back into the Living Lands.
What the Anniversary Update Adds
The Anniversary Update includes several headline features:
- New playable races: character creation now offers three additional races.
- Appearance changes at camp: you can now change your character’s look at Party Camp at any time.
- New Game+: carry your character into a fresh run, plus new custom game modifier options.
- New players get a smoother start with more options up front. Returning players get better tools for build testing. New Game+ and modifiers also give veterans a reason to rerun content with a twist.
- New weapon type: the update adds a quarterstaff.
- Photo Mode: capture your favorite scenes and fights.
- Quality-of-life improvements: the patch also brings more updates beyond the major additions.
You can play Avowed now on PlayStation 5. You can also play it on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, Steam, and Battle.net. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99, while the Premium Edition is $59.99. It’s also an Xbox Play Anywhere title and is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
