One of the first quests you’ll come across in Paradise Island is the Diabolical Drones of Doom, which acts as your introduction to the bounty terminals in The Outer Worlds 2. However, it isn’t immediately clear how to complete the quest, as completing the steps listed in your journey doesn’t seem to work. Here’s what you need to know to finish the quest and what rewards you’ll receive for turning it in.
How to Destroy the Hover Drones in The Outer Worlds 2
The journal entry for the Diabolical Drones of Doom quest tells you to ‘Destroy the Hover Drones,’ while giving you a wide area to search for them. However, you may have noticed that after destroying all of the Hover Drones, the quest still says you need to do so.

This is because there is an extra step that the journal doesn’t list, which is disabling the drones using a control panel located in the Southwester part of Paradise Island as shown in the map above.

However, this is also the first taste of you potentially being locked out of completing a quest if you don’t possess the proper Skills and Traits to disable the drones. You’ll need one of the following to do so:
- Engineering: Level 2
- Perk: Electro-Therapist
- Perk: Manual Reset
Here are the rewards for completing the Diabolical Drones of Doom quest in The Outer Worlds 2:
- Advanced Decryption Key
- 350 Bit Cartridge
- 630 Experience Points
- Auntie’s Choice Reputation Gain
When I ran into the skill requirement, I saved my game, dropped points into Engineering, and completed the quest just to see the outcome. Since it didn’t unlock new quests or dialogue, I reloaded and saved the mission for later. Eventually, once I had my core build in place, I used leftover points to reevaluate and finish it.
