Four big 2026 games took the spotlight, plus Xbox Play Anywhere details and release windows you’ll want to bookmark.

Microsoft opened 2026 with Xbox Developer Direct, packing in extended gameplay and new details on four major releases. The show highlighted Playground Games’ next Fable, a first proper look at Forza Horizon 6 in Japan, Game Freak’s darker action RPG Beast of Reincarnation, and Double Fine’s surprise project, Kiln.

Xbox also confirmed a key perk for Xbox and PC players. Every game shown supports Xbox Play Anywhere. Buy once through the Xbox or Windows store, then play across supported devices with shared saves and add-ons.

Release Dates at a Glance

  • Beast of Reincarnation: Summer 2026 (day one on Game Pass Ultimate)
  • Fable: Autumn 2026 (day one on Game Pass Ultimate)
  • Forza Horizon 6: May 19, 2026 (Premium Edition early access starts May 15)

Beast of Reincarnation takes place in a far-future, post-apocalyptic Japan. You play as Emma, traveling with her dog companion, Koo. A world-ending “blight” has ravaged the land, and the pair must survive, uncover answers, and hunt corrupted threats.

Combat blends real-time action with tactical choices. Emma handles the main fighting, while Koo brings support abilities you trigger through a command-style menu. The game also offers multiple difficulty options, so you can lean more action-forward or more strategic.

Playground Games showed an extended look at its new take on Albion. The segment focused on how your journey begins, character customization, and a morality system built around the series’ classic choice-and-consequence vibe.

Fable currently targets Autumn 2026. It’s also confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will get day one access on Xbox.

Forza Horizon 6 launches May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Microsoft Store and Steam). Premium Edition owners can jump in early on May 15. Microsoft also plans a PS5 version later in 2026.

The first gameplay showing leaned hard into Japan’s variety. You’ll race through dense streets, wide-open scenery, and car culture hotspots. Microsoft also calls this the biggest Horizon map yet. At launch, the game includes more than 550 cars, plus features like customizable garages and an “Estate” space for showing off your collection.

Double Fine closed the show with Kiln, a multiplayer party brawler with a wild hook. You craft ceramic gear on a pottery wheel, then take that gear into fights. What you make changes how you play.

Xbox pitched Kiln as 4v4 team chaos built around creating and smashing. The game launches in Spring 2026, and closed beta sign-ups are already open.

What’s Next for Xbox in 2026

Xbox framed this showcase as only part of its 2026 slate. The company also pointed to 2026 as Xbox’s 25th anniversary year and teased more updates for projects like Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved.
