Teamfight Tactics patch 16.2 is mostly number tuning, with Riot aiming to close the gap between AD and AP comps and make Emblems worth slamming without letting them outshine the units wearing them. Riot also notes bigger “design” changes (targeting, unlock conditions, and more) are planned for 16.3.
Patch highlights
Patch 16.2’s big themes are:
- More viable Emblems
- Less AD dominance (including an important Kraken’s Fury nerf)
- A pile of balance adjustments across traits, units, items, and Augments
System changes
Opening Encounters
This patch goes live on Thursday (instead of the usual Wednesday), and it adds a new Opening Encounter:
- Gwen (6% chance): after the first 3 Carousels, she gives everyone a random component plus “scissors” that split completed items into components
Opening Encounter odds also shift to make room for Gwen:
- Draven: 6.2% to 5%
- Lissandra: 7.2% to 6%
- Teemo: 5.2% to 4%
- All other encounters: -0.2%
Large changes
Traits
This patch touches a lot of trait power curves:
- Bilgewater: nerfs to the most oppressive Black Market items, paired with buffs to units that should keep the comp playable (notably Twisted Fate and Miss Fortune).
- Ionia paths: Path of Prosperous loses some raw stats, while other paths get help so they feel more worth building around.
- Ixtal: Riot makes a difficult quest faster to complete and trims the top-end 550 cashout value.
- Juggernaut (6): small durability bump.
- Noxus and Zaun: meaningful buffs to help them compete in later stages.
Key trait bullet changes include Bilgewater item nerfs, Ionia path adjustments, Ixtal quest/cashout changes, Juggernaut (6) damage reduction increase, Noxus health multipliers up, Zaun durability and healing up, and more.
Units
Units: Tier 2
- Bard: less “free econ” from loss streak rerolls, more spell damage to support carry Bard lines.
- Graves: survivability and damage nerfs.
- Teemo: stronger spell numbers to help reroll Yordles.
- Tryndamere: major nerfs (durability, damage, and move speed tech).
- Twisted Fate: passive damage buff.
Units: Tier 3
- Darius: buffs to mana and healing, making him a better frontline option.
- Draven: base AD up, but empowered axe damage down (overall nerf).
- Kobuko: bug fix and a re-tuned heal.
- Jinx: ability fully rewritten to fix edge-case failures, plus a big damage bump.
- LeBlanc: damage buffs that should help Noxus/AP lines.
Units: Tier 4
- Ambessa: slam damage buff.
- Diana: significant nerfs to base AD and shield to curb the “infinite casts” style builds.
- Kai’Sa: AD form gets a damage bump.
- Kalista: small quality buff (AS/mana), plus more targets while keeping total damage stable.
- Miss Fortune: base spell damage up.
- Seraphine: more damage per crystal, less healing.
- Singed: pushed into a “utility tank” identity (role change, stat tuning).
- Skarner: stun duration reduced.
- Yunara: damage trimmed and backline access hit.
- Veigar: slight spell damage nerf.
Units: Tier 5
- Aurelion Sol: big spell damage buff (Riot calls out his impact not matching his unlock cost).
- Baron Nashor: damage nerfs.
- Kindred: passive damage and duration nerfs.
- Senna & Lucian: Black Mist duration nerf.
- T-Hex: multiple nerfs (mana regen scaling, shield, damage, and falloff) to stop it from deleting backlines too easily.
- Ziggs: buffs to attack speed, mana, and passive damage.
Core items
- Kraken’s Fury: max-stacks attack speed drops from 30% to 15%, aimed at easing the AD-heavy meta.
Emblems
Emblems get a broad stat upgrade so they feel like real item slams (Riot frames them as roughly “three components” worth of stats, still weaker than full core items). Expect big stat packages on many Origin and Class Emblems, including Bilgewater, Demacia, Freljord, Ionia, Noxus, Void, Yordle, Zaun, and more.
Artifacts
Artifacts get a tuning pass:
- Aegis of Dawn/Dusk: faster steals and faster combo tick timing.
- Cappa Juice: higher base and scaling stats.
- Darkin Scythe: bug fix stops the slash from critting or applying on-hit effects.
- Void Gauntlet: stores more max health over time.
Radiant items
Most underperforming Radiant items get buffs, while Radiant Kraken’s Fury takes a nerf to match the core item’s direction. Notable buffs include Adaptive Helm, Dragon Claw, Spirit Visage, Steadfast Heart, Gargoyle Stoneplate, and Warmog’s Armor.
Augments
Big Augment moves in 16.2 include:
- Axiomata removed temporarily, with Axiom positioning adjusted.
- Growth Mindset removed and Hexgate Travel removed (Riot calls out unhealthy patterns).
- Several economy and power adjustments (Bandle Bounty, Birthday Reunion requirement, Bronze For Life rework, Silco’s Revenge nerf, World Runes cashout nerf, and more).
Small changes
Augments
This section is mostly tooltip clarity, including better tracking text for XP, combat-only counting, and general wording improvements.
Bug fixes
Patch 16.2 also includes a set of bug fixes, including:
- Jinx no longer stopping attacks in edge cases (reinforced by the rewrite).
- Veigar AP passive and Blue Buff interaction fixed.
- Several Augment and VFX fixes, plus a Radiant Ionic Spark damage issue under specific conditions.
