In Chapter 2 of Syberia Remastered, Kate Walker’s journey takes her to the grand Barrockstadt University. To get the train moving again, you’ll need to negotiate with barge workers, solve a bandstand puzzle, expose a secret wine operation, and talk your way past a stubborn border captain. This guide covers every key item, dialogue option, puzzle solution, and achievement along the way.

Barrockstadt

• Start in the train bedroom. Exit and grab the Mammoth Doll from the shelf — you’ll need it later.
• Speak to Oscar outside the train. He mentions you’ve arrived at Barrockstadt University, but the train needs to be wound up again.
• Exit the train to your left (Kate’s right), walk all the way right down the platform, and talk to the stationmaster for extra dialogue.
• Turn around and continue until you reach the Exit prompt.
• Walk until you reach a winding platform, similar to the one from Chapter 1. Kate will comment on it.
• Head back to the train — Oscar will summon you inside.
• Speak to him and he’ll say the Rectors want to see you.
• Exit the train to Kate’s right and go up the stairs, then left toward the main doors.
• Before exiting the station, go right and exit out the side door.
  • Pick up the Hook from the crates.
  • Speak to the barge couple — they’ll offer to help move the train for $100.
• Head back up the stairs, into the station, and exit through the big doors under the Barrockstadt sign.

The University

• Walk up the large stairs into the university plaza.
• Talk to the man near the next staircase, then go up the stairs to enter Barrockstadt University.
• Inside, go left and down the hall to the red door — this leads to the Rector’s Office.
  • Speak to the Rectors and earn the “Wise Voices” achievement.
  • Exhaust all dialogue options.
  • Your new goal: repair the bandstand to earn $100 for the barge workers.

Explore the University for Key Items

• Exit the Rectors’ office and enter the first door on the right — the library:
  • Head downstairs and interact with the book on the left table to learn about birds.
  • Pick up the music box on the chair to collect Bandstand Part 2.
  • Go upstairs and circle to the ladder leaning against the bookshelves — interact and collect the Mushroom Book.
• Next, go up the left stairs in the hallway and enter the lecture hall:
  • Pick up Bandstand Part 1 from the bottom-left table.
• Return to the main hallway and walk straight until you meet the professor writing in a book:
  • Exhaust all dialogue.
  • Give him the Mammoth Doll — he walks away.
• Enter the red door at the end of the hallway (his classroom):
  • Ask him about the berries mentioned in the book.
  • On the desk behind him, collect:
    • Pliers
    • Yangara Cola
  • In the glass cabinet to the left of the door, collect the Barrockstadt Cylinder.

Fixing the Bandstand

• Exit the university and head down the steps.
  • You’ll receive a call from Marson.
• Locate the large automaton band at the plaza entrance. Interact with the front — you’ll see it’s missing an egg-shaped object.
• Return to the train station and visit the stationmaster:
  • Ask about Sauvignon grapes. He’ll deny it and walk off.
  • Find him again on the bridge near the university exit and ask again.
• Go back to the university and speak to the professor about Sauvignon.
• Talk to the Rectors next. They’ll hint at a secret illegal winery.
• Return to the stationmaster and confront him:
  • He admits everything and unlocks access to the secret garden.

Enter the Secret Garden

• Cross the bridge and the next one over the train tracks.
• Go down the stairs and follow the path to the garden entrance.
  • Cutscene plays and you earn the “Well Kept Secret” achievement.
• Inside, walk to the back and interact with the vines to collect grapes.
• Return to the station and follow the platform until you see a ladder surrounded by birds.
  • Use the grapes on the birds to earn the “Ornithologist” achievement.
  • Climb up and try to grab the egg from the bird automaton.
  • Use the Pliers to reach it and add the Egg to your inventory.

Play the Barrockstadt Cylinder

• Enter the center room on the train.
• Place the Barrockstadt Cylinder in the center pedestal.
  • Watch the cutscene with Anna and Hans.
  • Earn the “War Rages On” achievement.
  • Store the cylinder with the first one.

Solve the Bandstand Puzzle

• On your way back to the bandstand, the stationmaster will give you a bottle of wine.
• At the bandstand door:
  • Place the egg on the scale.
  • Spin the wheel to open the door and go inside.
  • Pick up Bandstand Part 3 from the ground.
• Use the ladder to go downstairs.
• Examine the paper on the wall — it shows where to insert each part:
  • Bandstand Part 1: Column 1, Row 3
  • Bandstand Part 2: Column 2, Row 6
  • Bandstand Part 3: Column 4, Row 2
• Turn around and interact with the central machine.
• Insert all Bandstand Parts using the code above.
• Pull the handle to play the band’s performance.
  • Earn the “The Show Must Go On” achievement.
• Return to the Rectors to receive your $100 reward.

The Barge Puzzle

• Return to the barge workers and give them the $100.
  • They toss you the Sluice Key.
• Go back inside the station and find the sluice control panel (past the university exit and bridge).
  • On your way, you’ll get a call from your mom.
• Insert the Sluice Key to lift the cover.
• Read the note with a phone number and use your phone:
  • Call the number, press #, then 1 twice.
  • You’ll learn the technician is on holiday.

Manual Sluice Operation

Use this sequence on the panel to move the barge:

• Press **4, 2, *** (barge enters first lock)
• Press **4, 1, *** (water level rises)
• Press **4, 2, *** (barge moves forward)
• Press **4, 1, *** (barge exits the lock)
• Return to the bridge, go right, and head to the barge platform.
• Speak to the workers and select Help.
• Attach the Hook to the chain.
  • A cutscene shows the train being moved to the winding station.
• Walk to the train exit point and head toward the train.
  • Cornelius Pons will call — you’ll be automatically transported to the lecture hall.

The University Lecture

• Watch the presentation on the Youkols, mammoths, and Syberia.
  • Earn the “Anthropologist” achievement.
• Exit the lecture hall and return to the professor’s classroom.
  • Pick up the Mammoth Doll and Lecture Notes from his desk.

Winding the Train Again

• Return to the train, use the small platform to climb aboard.
• Go across and down the other side to the winding station.
• Spin the wheel to extend the device.
• Pull the lever to wind the train.
  • Earn the “Against the Wall” achievement.
• You’ll get a call from Dan after.

Final Preparations

• Return inside the train and place the Mammoth Doll back in the center room.
• Speak to Oscar and choose Mission.
  • The train starts but halts in front of a giant wall.

The Wall

• After the cutscene, Oscar is missing.
• Exit the train and go left to find the ticket booth with Oscar inside.
• Talk to him — you’ll need an Exit Visa from the guard post.
• Enter the door in the wall to reach the top of the wall.
  • You’ll receive a call from Olivia.

Get the Exit Visa

• Walk across the wall and enter the building through the double doors.
  • Earn the “Barrockstadt University” achievement.
• Use the telescope to talk to Captain Malatesta.
• Press the red button twice to clear the lens.
  • You’ll see a dead tree, not a scout.
• Exit the scope, inspect the desk, and interact with the glasses to learn the captain is blind.
• Place the wine and Yangara Cola in his wine glass.
  • Watch the cutscene where he regains his sight.
  • Earn the “Cheers!” achievement.
• Talk to him again for a final dialogue about Hans.

Complete the Chapter

• Return to Oscar and give him the Exit Visa.
  • He will give you a Train Ticket.
• Board the train and give the ticket to Oscar.
